Help for the first time parent...
1. The Safe Feeder has got the base of a pacifier but instead of a nipple on the end it has a mesh sack so you can fill it with baby food and it slowly releases as the baby chews... they say cold baby yogurt or cold applesauce works best... use either depending on the proper stage the baby is in... Apple Sauce can be from a supported sitter and up like my son (4mos)... Baby Yogurt is for an infant that can sit on their own & up. Gerber makes the best in baby food unless you want your organic... then just make it your self or buy expensive...
2. Olive Oil diluted with Almond Oil, then rub it on the baby's gum
3. Make a weak Chamomile Tea, then chill it in the fridge and mix with breast milk or formula... or you can freeze it into an ice pop for them.
4. Rub a small piece of Ginger Root on the baby's gum (ginger root works as a calming agent like chamomile, both are also good for Colic)
5. A Licorice Stick (NOT THE CANDY!) or a piece of Fennel to chew or suck on helps calm the baby.
6. Rubbing Pure Vanilla Extract on the gum (the alcohol can create a warming sensation for temporary relief), vanilla is widely acknowledged as a soothing agent that reduces anxiety and promotes the feeling of calmness. It can cure upset stomachs as well.
7. Amber Teething Necklaces were also recommended. They are greatly debated because although they help sooth teething, they are also a choking hazard cause its an actual beaded necklace... so extreme supervision and parental guidance is severely encouraged with this one... Amber is a petrified tree resin, not to be confused with tree sap. The Baltic Amber Teething Necklace was most recommended out of all the amber necklaces.
8. Teething Tablets or Gel are homeopathic remedies found in most pharmacies and health food stores. The top Brands suggested were Hyland's and Boiron.
9. A drop of Clove Oil diluted with a Tbsp. of Almond Oil rubbed on the gum can warm and sooth teething.*** NOTE: When using Clove Oil use as directed and be sparingly with it because it can cause an upset stomach for the baby. When mixing if you add too much then either add extra almond to the mix or start over. Its the most potent out of all the remedies!
10. Frozen foods to gnaw on such as frozen bagels or teething biscuits. Thanks to the excessive drooling that takes place from teething any small parts that break away usually dissolve. However, it is still important to keep an eye out regardless. (which you already know)
... So, that's my top ten... I didn't bother adding the other things cause they are common sense but here they are for shits and giggles: frozen washcloth, teething rings/toys, a dab of rum rubbed on the gum, your very own CLEAN finger, blankies, plush stuffed animals... and etc... and etc... we know this from the crazy women before us passing them down LOL... I hope we all find what helps our little ones the best! Good Luck Parental Units!
